Linda had the good fortune to grow up on the farm in Slocum. Although she started grading potatoes at a very young age on the farm, she never thought she would one day become a farmer.
Linda graduated with a degree in business from the University of Connecticut. After graduation, she worked her way around the world, starting with a work away passage on a Norwegian cruise ship from New York City to Bergen, Norway. This adventure allowed her to visit Australia, Japan, England, Norway, and most of Europe - instilling a life long love of travel. Upon her return, she started graduate school and received an MBA, with a focus in marketing.
After working as a CPA, in 1985 she returned to work full time at Sodco, which she and her husband, Richard Hodgson, started in 1981. Richard retired in 2001, but Linda continues to work and enjoys the challenges of the farm.
Linda was a trustee on the International Turf Producers Board, providing her an opportunity to travel across the US visiting sod farms. She was also a director on First Pioneer Farm Credit for three terms, a member of the Board of Directors of RI Farm Bureau, past President of New England Sod Producers, and a trustee at South County Hospital for three terms. She is currently serving on the board of directors of the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County.
